First visit
The first dental visit should be at 1-year age .The primary teeth are recently erupted and dentist can discuss methods for oral hygiene. The dentist makes dietary and fluoride regime.
Frequency of the visits
The child should visit the dental office twice a year. The number of visits depends on whether the child has caries, poor oral hygiene, and unusual dental growth.
Are temporary teeth important ?
Primary teeth are very important. The child learns to speak properly, chew and smile .Primary teeth save place for the permanent teeth. If the child lose their primary teeth at an early age, the adjacent teeth migrate and can cause orthodontic problems .
How to clean temporary teeth?
In the newborn you should use gauze to clean soft tissues in the mouth ( gums ) after feeding. After the eruption of the first tooth , you can clean with soft toothbrush .
When do you have to use toothpaste ?
After eruption of the first teeth , a fluoride paste can be used .Paste is not recommended for children under 2 years because they can swallow a larger amount of fluoride , which can result in white spots on the teeth. The parents should help their children with brushing until they grow up. The children should rinse well after brushing .
Dental sealants are one of the greatest advancements in preventive dental care .
Dental sealants are applied by the dentist,no anesthesia or tooth preparation is necessary. The entire process is painless, safe, and is completed in just a few minutes. We first clean and dry the tooth to be treated and then paint a thin layer of liquid plastic material on the pits and fissures of the tooth. The plastic sealant prevents bacteria from getting down into the tooth where our toothbrush bristles do not reach. By sealing off the tooth, we very effectively prevent tooth decay from occurring. Children should receive sealants on permanent molars as soon as they erupt (between ages 6 and 12)
